It's been confirmed that 20-year-old Republic of Ireland underage keeper Caoimhin Kelleher will start in Liverpool's Carabao Cup Round of 16 tie tomorrow.
Jurgen Klopp's side welcome Arsenal to Anfield and the Corkman will play in goal, having made his senior debut in the same competition against MK Dons last month.
Liverpool's Dutch assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders confirmed the news to Liverpoolfc.com today, adding that he's confident Kelleher will impress in front of a home crowd.
“We have Adrian, who did an unbelievable job and if something happens with Ali, Adrian is our No.2 and then has to do the job.
“But in this League Cup, it is Caoimhin’s competition. As I said before the MK Dons game, with youth development, with these moments when they are in between the U23s and the first team, consistency is very important.
“He had a good game and he is preparing for another one. It will be special for him playing at Anfield.”
Lijnders also gave an injury update, with the Merseysiders currently sitting six points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.
Joel Matip is still struggling with a knee issue, while Swiss international Xherdan Shaqiri will not be back in club action until after the November international break.
“Shaq will only be back after the international break. We want to give him the time. With a calf injury, it is always very high risk, especially with his calves.
“Joel’s knee is still irritated – we need to give him time. I don’t know the exact time he will need but it will really need time to heal.”
Lijnders also provided an update on Mohamed Salah after the Egyptian forward was withdrawn in the closing stages of Sunday’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
“Mo is fine. Towards the end of the game, it is more precaution because the ankle gets more tired and he feels it a little bit more and we have to take him off. But he is fine, he is good.
“All the others are fit, hungry and ready to go.”
