Celtic's Boli Bolingoli has been handed a three-match ban with a further two games suspended for breaking coronavirus regulations.

The defender flew to Spain and back without telling his club and then played against Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership, having failed to quarantine for 14 days as required.

His actions caused two of Celtic's fixtures to be postponed and his manager Neil Lennon hit out at Bolingoli for letting the club and his teammates down:

"From my point of view as a manager, the majority players here and the staff, we've worked really, really hard, tirelessly, and people at the club as well.

"So from our point of view we'll still try and set the highest of standards as we possibly can.

"I'm disappointed for the club. Like I said last week, I think we've been at the forefront of getting the game up and running, all the procedures, all the protocols and it's down to the actions of one individual really"

While the eight Aberdeen players who broke coronavirus protocols have avoided any immediate punishment.

They've been given three-match bans by a Scottish FA disciplinary panel, but the suspensions will only be invoked if they break the same regulations again.

Two of the group tested positive for Covid-19, causing two of Aberdeen's Premiership fixtures to be called off.

Meanwhile football supporters could be back in stadiums in Scotland on September the 12th.

Scotland's sports minister Joe Fitzpatrick has announced three trial games with a crowd will take place early next month.
