Sunderland 1 - 3 Chelsea

A Fernando Torres brace helped put struggling Sunderland to the sword as Rafa Benitez got his first win as Chelsea manager.

Torres had scored twice in midweek and he did not have to wait long for his next goal as he headed in an Eden Hazard cross after ten minutes.

The Spaniard made it two from the spot on the stroke of half-time - the first time he had taken a penalty in English football - after Ramires was brought down in the area by a clumsy Seb Larsonn challenge.

And Torres could have scored a hat-trick in the second half when his fierce strike came back off the crossbar.

But Juan Mata stroked in the rebound to make it 3 - 0.

Sunderland up the ante and Adam Johnson fired in from the left-hand edge of the box to pull one back for the Black Cats.

But it was not enough for Sunderland as they slip into the relegation zone. The three points for Chelsea lift Rafa's team keep them third - four points behind second-placed Manchester City.

Arsenal 2 - 0 West Brom

Arsene Wenger's side arrested a recent slide in fortunes at the Emirates - their first win in five.

Mikel Arteta gave the Gunners a controversial lead from the penalty spot in the 25th minute.

But replays suggest the referee missed a Santi Cazorla dive.

Arteta doubled Arsenal's lead in the second half after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was felled in the box.

The result condemned West Brom to their third successive defeat while Arsenal climb up to sixth - two points off fourth-placed Tottenham.

Swansea 3 - 4 Norwich

Norwich held off a Swansea comeback to claim another three points.

Chris Hughton's side took a 3 - 0 first half lead in Wales through Steven Whittaker, Sebastian Bassong and Grant Holt.

But the Swans pulled two goals back in the second period through Michu and Jonathan De Guzman to pile the pressure on the Canaries.

However the next goal went to Norwich as Robert Snodgrass made it four from a free-kick.

But Michu set up an exciting finish by netting Swansea's third.

Wigan 2 - 2 QPR

A James McCarthy double helped prevent Harry Redknapp from getting QPR's first win of the season.

The Ireland midfielder gave the Latics an early lead from a deflected volley.

But Rangers hit back through Ryan Nelsen and Djibril Cisse to take the lead.

But McCarthy poked in an equaliser 16 minutes from time to earn a draw.

The result leaves QPR winless - they set the longest non-winning streak in Premier League history - and bottom of the table - two points adrift of Reading who lost a relegation six-pointer to Southampton.
