Chelsea are through to the last 16 of the Champions League with two games to spare after a 2-1 win against Rennes in France.

An Olivier Giroud header in the 92nd minute saw the Blues claim victory, and advance to the next round.

After dominating the opening exchanges, Chelsea led on 22 minutes when Callum Hudson Odoi deservedly put them in front, finishing to the corner of the net having been played in by Mason Mount.

It looked like Frank Lampard's side would hold on for the 1-0 victory, before they coughed up an equaliser five minutes from time, when Sehrou Guirassy was left unmarked in the box, and his bullet header left Edouard Mendy with no chance.

At the time, it seemed a draw wouldn't have been enough to guarantee early qualification, but Olivier Giroud ensured it on 92 minutes; Timo Werner's shot was blocked and sent flying into the air, Giroud reacting fastest to head into the roof of the net, and seal the 2-1 win.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Hudson-Odoi said was quick to thank his teammate Mason Mount for laying on the opening goal.

"I need to take each opportunity I get when I'm in the team. I want to keep getting goals and assists and working hard for the team.

"I know Mason [Mount], he works really hard and presses well in the middle of the pitch so as soon as he got the ball I knew I was in-front of the full back, and his vision is amazing and he'd pick me out so I got in there and got the goal," he said.

The next challenge is to see who finishes top of Group E, with Sevilla also through to the next round alongside Chelsea.

Munir El Haddadi's injury-time winner saw the Europa League champions win 2-1 away to Krasnador.
