Denmark footballer Christian Eriksen is to be fitted with a heart starting device following his collapse last Saturday in Copenhagen.

Eriksen had to be resuscitated after suffering a cardiac arrest during the European Championship game against Finland.

Danish team doctor Morten Boesen says the device is necessary after an attack due to 'rhythm disturbances'.

Eriksen has accepted the treatment which is recommended by specialists nationally and internationally.

The 29-year-old, who has received an outpouring of love from the sporting world, is recovering in hospital and says he is 'fine under the circumstances'.

Denmark will return to the Parken Stadium for a Group B match against Belgium on Thursday, with the Belgian players planning to kick the ball out of play in the 10th minute before a minute's applause is held for the Inter Milan player.

One of the doctors who was on duty at the Denmark v Finland game, Jens Kleinfeld, told Funke Media Group that a defibrillator was used to treat the player.

"About 30 seconds later, he opened his eyes and I could talk to him directly.

"That was a very moving moment, because in such medical emergencies in everyday life, the chances of success are much lower."

Kleinfeld said he asked the player, "Well, are you back with us?"

The doctor said that Eriksen answered, "Yes, I am back with you" and, "....I'm only 29 years old".

Kleinfeld added: "That's when I knew the brain wasn't damaged and he had fully returned."
