Former Netherlands international Clarence Seedorf says he is to become the new head coach at AC Milan.
The Italian side sacked Massimiliano Allegri earlier this week and Seedorf had been one of the favourites for the job.
The midfielder has been at Brazilian side Botafogo for the past 18 months but will now hang up his boots.
"This experience of a year and a half helped me grow and will help me in the next stage of my life as coach of Milan," said Seedorf today.
Seedorf has no managerial experience, but is popular in Milan having helped the club win the Champions League twice in his time as a player.
He was reportedly the preferred choice of owner Silvio Berlusconi and his daughter Barbara Berlsuconi who has become a more prominent figure at the club.
In 2007, Simon Kuper interviewed the four-time Champions League winner and tonight he speaks to Off The Ball about a fascinating figure who has had a "penchant for spouting humourless psychobabble". But he also revealed that the 37-year-old "Seedorf outscores all other players" in Milan Lab's physical and psychological tests.
Last night, James Horncastle had warned that Milan could end up in a disastrous situation if they appoint Seedorf or the other main candidate Filippo Inzaghi, as both lack experience at the highest level.
