Ireland rugby coach Andy Farrell is due to name Munster's Conor Murray at scrum-half for Saturday's Six Nations opener against Scotland at Lansdowne Road.
Murray is likely to pip Ulster's John Cooney to the number nine shirt, with an uptick in form and compatibility with skipper Johnny Sexton seen as factors in his possible inclusion.
Jordan Larmour has a foot injury, so Ulster's Will Addison is set to be given the full-back jersey. Completing the back three may be Andrew Conway and Jacob Stockdale, with Leinster duo Garry Ringrose and Robbie Henshaw to constitute the midfield.
Farrell may select Rob Herring at hooker, as Ronan Kelleher has spent a spell on the sidelines with a hand injury. However, Kelleher is set to be a part of the matchday squad. The prop forwards are expected to be Cian Healy and Tadhg Furlong.
It's not certain who will partner James Ryan in the second row, with Iain Henderson and Devin Toner vying for inclusion.
Leinster's Caelan Doris is set to be named at number eight; earning a first cap, and possibly flanked by CJ Stander and Josh Van der Flier.
The Ireland squad are currently based in Portugal and the 15 will be announced at lunchtime.
Scotland will name their starting line up on Thursday.
Ireland have two home Six Nations games to start the campaign, with Wales the visitors to Dublin on Saturday week.
