Dublin's hurling panel have been hit with the blow that former All Star Danny Sutcliffe is not to feature in next year's squad.

The St. Jude's star was not at a players' meeting last night according to the Irish Independent as plans continue for Ger Cunningham's second year in charge of the side. Sutcliffe played a crucial role in last years run to the quarter final starting in all five games.

He scored 0-7 in last years championship, including 0-3 in the quarter final loss to Waterford. He was part of the team that won Dublin's first Leinster title since 1961, in 2013. He scored a point in the 21-point win over Galway in the final.

Sutcliffe made his Championship debut for Dublin in 2011 and has underage Provincial medals in both codes. He won a Minor Football title in 2009, before winning the Under-21 Hurling title two years later.

Meanwhile, Ballyboden-St. Endas midfielder Simon Lambert has been told he will not be part of Cunningham's plans for the 2016 squad. The 27-year-old claims the reason given to him for his omission were disrespectful after coming back from injuries in 2013 and 2014.

Dublin begin their Allianz League campaign against Tipperary on February 13th next year.
