France head coach Didier Deschamps has had his say on the misfiring career of Paul Pogba at Manchester United. 

The World Cup-winning manager claims his midfielder "can't be happy" at being left on the bench, or played out of position at Old Trafford.

Saturday's 3-1 win at Everton was the third time in four Premier League games that United's record signing had started on the bench. Pogba was also only given 8-minutes at Goodison.

He was also sprung from the bench in last week's Champions League defeat away to Istanbul Basaksehir.

Pogba's with the French squad as they prepare for a friendly with Finland and UEFA Nations League games with Portugal and Sweden.

"I know Paul well and he knows the squad well. He finds himself in a situation with his club that he can't be happy about," Deschamps said, "neither in terms of his playing time nor his position."

"He's not at his best, he's had a string of injuries and COVID-19 has also affected him adversely (Pogba tested positive in late-August).

"He needs to rediscover his rhythm.

"He did well in the matches that he was involved in last month and performed consistently despite his lack of rhythm. Nevertheless, we can't say that he's blossoming at club level.

"There's no problem with me, but I also work hard to manage him.

"When a player is unhappy at club level, of course he is happy to play for France. He will tell me about how he's feeling and as I know him very well, things will go in a positive direction.

"It's also his responsibility to put in a big effort."

Former United stalwart Phil Neville, meanwhile, has branded Pogba's recent omission from the starting XI at Old Trafford as "disgraceful".

"For United to win a league, for United to be successful, for United to play the style of football that Ole wants them to plan then Pogba has to play," the former England Women's boss told Premier League Productions.

"You can play one of them: Matic, Fred or McTominay, and then you can play Pogba with (Bruno) Fernandes."
