We have all heard some wild cinematic theories before - from the Pixar shared universe to the dizzying amount of theories about The Shining. But it seems as if a festive favourite and a Halloween hit might share a dark secret.
In a new article which is not at all tongue-in-cheek - it has 'deadly serious' in the headline, after all - Grantland's Jason Concepcion argues there are some... disturbing links between Home Alone and horror franchise Saw.
Jason argues that "throughout Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Kevin displays anger-control issues, a proclivity for violent fantasies, and voyeuristic tendencies, combined with a fetish for recorded video."
Obviously, the most significant linking factors between the two characters is their fondness for elaborate, dangerous traps. As the author suggests, "when you take into account the similarities between Kevin’s intricate, almost pathologically complicated home-defense mechanisms and Jigsaw’s carefully designed murder-traps, the case for Kevin being young Jigsaw become quite a bit more substantial."
If you are not convinced, Jason also identifies some startling physical similarities between actors Macaulay Culkin and Tobin Bell, who play Kevin and Jigsaw respectively. And eagle-eyed viewers will even spot an evil looking clown doll in Home Alone...
Decide for yourself - the evidence is laid out here. Remember - it is deadly serious.
