Dublin made a winning start under Jim Gavin after beating Anthony Rainbow's Carlow by 3-13 to 1-12 in the O'Byrne Cup.

In the other pre-season cup games, Meath edged out Longford by 1-9 to 1-7, and Kildare got the better of Carlow IT by 1-13 to 0-7.

Offaly saw off Laois by 1-11 to 1-8, Louth beat UCD by 2-15 to 1-13, while Wicklow and DCU settled for a draw.

Westmeath beat Athlone IT by 1-22 to 0-13 and DIT were 1-15 to 1-11 winners against Wexford.
