Dublin GAA fans will get the chance to celebrate the county's All-Ireland Senior Football Championship win with a special event this evening in the capital.

Thousands are expected to arrive at Merrion Square from 6pm to see RTÉ presenter and commentator Des Cahill welcome the victorious team and Andy Kettle, Chairman of the Dublin County Board on stage.

Host of the event, Dublin’s Lord Mayor Oisín Quinn, said: "After defeats in the semi finals in both 2006 and 2012 Dublin finally ended Mayo’s recent dominance over them in the championship to claim the ultimate prize.

"It’s a thrilling day for Dubs at home and abroad. It’s great to bring Sam home again for the second time in three years after lending him to Donegal last year!”

The event is family-friendly and alcohol will not be permitted.

Traffic restrictions are currently in place on Merrion Square East and South, Mount Street Upper and Fitzwilliam Street Lower.
