Jeff Daniels, who played Harry in Dumb and Dumber revealed to Jimmy Fallon on his late night US talk show that a sequel will finally begin production this September.
Dumb and Dumber To (yes, that typo is intentional) was due to start filming previously but was dropped by Warner Brothers last month. It was scooped up by Universal Pictures soon afterwards, who clearly saw potential in the script.
“I’ve seen the script, it’s hysterical. We’re middle aged, and we’re not pretending we aren’t. We’re still that stupid.”
The Farrelly Brothers, who wrote, produced and directed the 1994 original are back on board, as is Daniels' co-star Jim Carrey. “It’ll be so great to be with Jim again; he’s one of the best we’ve got. It’ll be the 20th anniversary of the first one when it comes out.”
The Farrelly Brothers were behind other hits like There’s Something About Mary, Me, Myself & Irene and Shallow Hall, but they’ve also made a few stinkers. Still, with the same people on board as the first one there’s a better chance it'll be more akin to the original than Dumb and Dumberer, that horrible, horrible prequel from 2003.
