Dundalk continued their season of overachieving with a 3-1 win over Shamrock Rovers at Oriel Park, while also narrowing the gap at the top of the table to just one point as league leaders St. Pat’s drew 0-0 at home against Drogheda United. The Saints have a game in hand but will look on the result as two points dropped in the hunt for their first title since 1999.

Sligo Rovers took a massive win from The Brandywell as goals from David Cawley and Danny North keep them in the title race and facilitate the continuation of hopes for a second successive title.

The relegation battle remains tightly packed but UCD managed to put a buffer between themselves and danger as they took a crucial win from Dalymount last night, overcoming Bohs 3-1, thanks to two goals in the first twenty minutes, supplemented with a third with just 10 minutes left on the clock.

The two sides went into the game separated by just 1 point at the foot of the table and the defeat leaves Owen Heary’s Bohs side 1 point adrift of both Shelbourne and Bray with those sides to face each other tomorrow afternoon at the Carlisle Grounds. A win for either side will leave Bohs four points adrift of safety and in a major battle to save their Premier Division status.

In the remaining game last night Limerick were 2-1 winners of the Munster derby at Thomond park, leaving Cork City just 5 points above the relegation playoff spot.

Premier Divison results

Derry City 1-2 Sligo Rovers
Dundalk 3-1 Shamrock Rovers
Bohemians 1-3 UCD
St. Patrick’s Athletic 0-0 Drogheda United
Limerick 2-1 Cork City
