Ethiopian Tsegaye Kebede won the men's London Marathon. The 2010 winner came in ahead of Emmanuel Mutai who won the 2011 race.

As expected London 2012 hero Mo Farah ran just half of the course as part of his preparations for the full contest next year.

Kenya's Priscah Jeptoo triumphed in the women's race but David Weir failed to make it back-to-back victories in the wheelchair race, coming in fifth.

Runners in the London Marathon sported black ribbons to pay their respects to those killed and injured in the Boston Marathon bombings. 

Several hundred extra police officers were on duty throughout the race as security was stepped up.
