Euro Footy Focus is normally a place for analyzing different issues pertaining to European football whether it be Danish football or the cream of the crop in Europe's big five leagues.

This week is a little different and a little more poignant.

On Thursday night, Sevilla hosted the sixth Antonio Puerta Trophy to mark the loss of one of the greatest products of their youth academy. Puerta passed away on August 27th 2007, three days after suffering a cardicac arrest and collapsing during a La Liga game against Getafe at the Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

The death of the attacking left-back and native of Seville, weighed heavy on the city's heart.

I moved to Seville exactly a week and a year after his passing and although Puerta's name nor his legacy were omnipresent in the background, any mentions of the then-22-year-old were always recalled with fondness.

Puerta had already earned a Spain senior cap and had already written himself into the club's history books by scoring the goal that secured a UEFA Cup final place in 2006.

If he had lived, he was almost a shoe-in to become part of the Spain squads for Euro 2008, World Cup 2010 and Euro 2012 alongside close friends like Jesus Navas and Sergio Ramos.

More importantly he would have been able to watch his son grow up. Tragically, Puerta passed away while his girlfriend was pregnant with his only child.

6-year-old Aitor Puerta was the guest of honour at Thursday's Antonio Puerta Trophy match between Sevilla and Almeria, the annual friendly match which commemorates his life.

It won't bring Puerta back but at least it breathes some life into the phrase that adorned the Spanish players' shirts after Euro 2008 victory: "Siempre Con Nosotros" (Always with us).
