While on this side of the Atlantic we were delighted to see an Irish movie in the mix for the ‘Best Animated Feature’ at this year’s Academy Awards, across the pond everything is not awesome regarding Oscar’s snub of The LEGO Movie.
The popular animated film, well received by audiences and critics, failed to secure a nomination in the increasingly competitive category; instead, the Irish film Song of the Sea will compete against The Tale of Princess Kaguya (Japan), The Boxtrolls (UK), Big Hero 6 and How to Train you Dragon 2 (US).
On Twitter, the reaction to the Academy’s snub has not gone down well:
The credits at the end of #TheLegoMovie that were made out of @LEGO_Group bricks took a year to make! #OscarNoms

The absolute complete snubbing of #TheLegoMovie is absurd. So much heart and soul was in that movie and it gets no recognition.

Wait?!? What just happened?? How the heck does #TheLegoMovie not get nominated for Best Animated Feature?!? That is ridiculous! #OutOfTouch

Yeh, this just about covers the #TheLegoMovie snub. RT @kerihw: I can't bear to look at their little faces :( pic.twitter.com/uRhKVMYIJc

The film's writer-directors, Philip Lord and Chris Miller, also expressed their disappointment, but wished the film well in the category it has been nominated in - 'Best Original Song'.
This is not a tragedy. Congrats to incredible crew and cast of The Lego Movie, who made a classic.

Congrats to "Everything is Awesome" though currently the title of the song doesn't seem especially accurate!

Warner Bros’ The LEGO Movie was a big commercial hit, making almost $70m during its opening weekend, becoming one of the top-grossing movies of 2014.
The Academy’s snub was even remarked upon by Simon Otto, head of character animation on the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, who described it as a “travesty.”
#TheLegoMovie not getting nominated is a travesty! It's one of the most clever and entertaining movies of the year without a doubt.

Now, the only category The LEGO Movie will be compete in on February 22nd in ‘Best Song’, for the infection tune Everything is Awesome.
