Kilkenny hurler Michael Fennelly looks to be a major doubt for their championship opener, against Offaly, following a serious ankle injury.

The 2011 player of the year was rushed to A & E yesterday after injuring his ankle lining out for his club Ballyhale Shamrocks, against Clara.

Kilkenny begin their championship season on June 9.

The 2011 hurler of the year also missed the start of last season, with an ankle injury.
