Everton have confirmed that Duncan Ferguson will be the club's caretaker manager until a replacement for Rafa Benitez is found.
Benitez was sacked on Sunday, less than 24-hours after their 2-1 defeat at Norwich City and just 200 days into his tenure.
On Monday, Everton confirmed that Benitez's bespoke coaching staff were following him out the exit door. Francisco De Miguel Moreno (Assistant Manager), Antonio Gomez (First-Team Coach and Senior Analyst), Jamie Harley (Head of Sports Science) and Cristian Fernandez (First-Team Rehabilitation Fitness Coach) were all sent packing.
It's the second time Ferguson has been handed the reins at Goodison. He assumed the same role following the 2019 sacking of Marco Silva.
Ferguson has since worked alongside Carlo Ancelotti and Benitez as an assistant coach.
Everton's hunt for a permanent Benitez replacement is already threatening to drag on. They reportedly approached their former manager Roberto Martinez about rejoining in an interim capacity, potentially splitting his duties with the Belgian national team.
However, the Royal Belgian Football Association have seemingly blocked such a move.
The names of Derby head coach Wayne Rooney, formerly Napoli boss Gennaro Gattuso, and Frank Lampard have all been mentioned as potential appointments.
Ahead of Saturday's visit of Aston Villa to Goodison Park, Everton sit six-points and just two places above the Premier League's relegation zone.
Ferguson will be assisted in his endeavours by fellow Everton legends Leighton Baines and John Ebbrell, as well as goalkeeping coach Alan Kelly.
