World football governing body FIFA has delayed making a decision on whether or not to switch the 2022 Qatar World Cup to the winter until after next year's tournament in Brazil.
It is understood that FIFA's executive committee has agreed to form a commission to look into the possibility of moving the finals from the summer.
The commission's members will be drawn from across the game and will aim to represent all the major stakeholders.
They will consult with medical experts, broadcasters, sponsors and influential European leagues before coming to a decision.
Yesterday, it was reported that some executive committee members had serious reservations about moving the World Cup to another point on the calendar.
