The story of Leo Messi’s life looks set for the big screen, as an American producer has purchased the rights to make a film based on a biography of the Barcelona star.
Epic Pictures are aiming for a Rocky style biopic, completed in time for a release date coinciding with the 2014 World Cup. The film will be based on the biography “Messi: The Inside Story of the Boy Who Became a Legend” by Luca Caioli.
Variety reports that the film is going to take on a rag to riches theme, following Messi’s journey from Rosario, Argentina, to four time FIFA Player of the Year and the status as, probably, the greatest player of all time by the age of 25.
“The goal is to make a powerful and positive film that will leave audiences feeling inspired to go after their dreams no matter how impossible they may seem,” said Patrick Ewald of Epic Pictures.
Epic’s other notable work includes Vikingdom, V/H/S, Big Ass Spider! and Mall. The internet tells me none of them were the subject of particular critical praise.
For now we can tell ourselves that this might not be awful. Even though it almost certainly will be.
