The former Dutch international didn't have the best time at Anfield, something that he certainly believes was partially down to the manager at the time: Rafael Benitez.

Keeping up to date with the football news, Babel tweeted out an article that highlighted how Benitez was getting criticism at Real Madrid for being too defensive.

In response, a Liverpool fan replied to say that Benitez was in a good position in his career, and Babel should maybe place the blame somewhere else.

Understandably, that did not get a good reaction online, but Babel made things worse when he attempted to clarify what he meant.

Babel then continued to tweet to say that he wasn't trying to say you can't be a football fan if you're a woman, but that he personally wouldn't argue with a woman about football, before then tweeting out his phone number so that people could get in touch with him if they wanted to talk about it personally.

Babel currently plays for Al-Ain FC in Abu Dhabi.
