Disney’s animated smash hit Frozen has become the most successful animated film of all time, as this weekend it reached $1.072 Billion with its opening in Japan.
In reaching that point it leapfrogged the previous king of animation, Toy Story 3, which set the record at $1.063 Billion in 2010. Frozen is now one of the top 10 films of all time at the box office, Variety reports.
Frozen grossed just over $50 million on its opening weekend in Japan, bringing its total non-US revenue to $674 million.
The film first hit US cinema screens four months ago, quickly garnering critical and popular acclaim, before going on to win 2 Academy Awards, for best animated film and for best original song.
