Gareth Bale was sent off, for only the second time in his career, during Real Madrid's 3-3 draw with Las Palmas on Wednesday night.

The Welsh star only returned to the team last month, after missing almost three months with an ankle injury. Bale's red card will hamper his match fitness, ahead of Wales' crucial World Cup qualifier against Ireland on March 24th.

Bale was given a yellow and red card in the space of 30 seconds, early in the second half. The 27-year-old tangled with Jonathan Viera, kicking the Las Palmas midfielder, before the two men clashed. Bale then shoved the Spanish midfielder, leaving referee David Fernandez no choice to to send off the Welsh star.

Real Madrid have only four games to play before their trip to Dublin later this month. Although a ban is not yet confirmed, Bale will certainly be able to play in one of those games.

Zinedine Zidane's side face three La Ligas games, all of which Bale could potentially be banned for. The team also play Napoli in the Champions League next week, which could be Bale's last opportunity to get some game-time ahead of the game in the Aviva Stadium.

Real Madrid came from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 with the Gran Canaria side. They are now a point behind Barcelona at the top of the La Liga table, but have a game in hand.
