Former Ireland international Gary Breen does not think Roy Keane is the right man for the vacant Ireland job.

The retired defender was on Newstalk Breakfast to discuss the best candidates for the role.

But he does not think Keane is a viable option at the present time.

He told Chris and Ivan: "We are talking about people with the right managerial experience. We could talk about Martin O'Neill or we could go back to Mick McCarthy. Looking at it you can say what a good job he did. Obviously in the 12-year period since the big fallout in Saipan, people's opinions of Mick have changed because people's opinions of Roy Keane as Manchester United captain have changed. And obviously they have observed his managerial experiences and I'm not sure that's the kind of thing people would want now."

Breen also detailed O'Neill's attributes:

"If you're looking at Martin O'Neill, you know he's got a wealth of experience. He's probably come towards the end of his career in club management and if you speak to anyone,  the major thing they say about Martin O'Neill is about his motivational skills. Certainly under Trapattoni, what we did lose a little bit was our identity. He seemed to develop an inferiority complex within the squad."
