An "emotional" Gary Neville has expressed his frustration at the Manchester United Executive on the Gary Neville Podcast.

Neville was speaking in the immediate aftermath of Liverpool's facile 2-0 victory over Manchester United at Anfield yesterday.

The United legend didn't hold back in a withering assessment of the board's performance at Old Trafford in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

"They really have got to react fast, they need to make good decisions," said Neville. However, he appeared to have little confidence in that happening.

"There's been a real frustration in these last few years at United, u-turning all over the place when it comes to stragegy.

"They have made some terrible investments when it comes to recruitment. It's all coming home to roost.

Neville was clear on what should focus Ed Woodward and the rest of the United hierarchy: "Nothing brings it home to roost more than seeing Liverpool football club right back at the top of that league.

"That is the most painful thing. I hope everybody in that Manchester United executive team is feeling the pain of those fans."

Neville doesn't see any immediate relief for the fans: "This is going to get bad. The next six months are going to be really really difficult.

Decisions

The Sky Sports Pundit was then pushed on what decisions need to be made by the club, he identified the deficiencies.

"I can't believe the investment that's been put into the squad in the last six or seven years, and you end up with that out on the pitch.

"I saw a statistic two weeks ago that United have the second-highest wage bill in the world. And that’s the squad they’ve got. It’s unforgivable. It really is.

“If you don’t lose your job for essentially overseeing that investment, that wage bill, and putting that team out on the pitch then I have to say, something is really wrong.

“There’s real talent in that executive team ... but in terms of what the club needed to do for a number of years now is put the best in class football operators into that club and they’re not doing it. They’re not doing it and it’s a mess.”
