Liverpool are considering a bid for ex Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has made it clear Given is not in his plans this season and the Sun report that Liverpool want the 37 year old as cover for Simon Mignolet. 

It would represent a change for the Donegal stopper who looked at one stage like he was on his way to Doncaster on a season long loan, at least at Doncaster he would have being playing first team football where as at the Reds much like his time at Manchester City he'll probably have to be happy on the bench.

That said while the Reds have been impressive so far this year Simon Mignolet has occasionally looked "flappy" and unsure between the stick so could that leave a door open for our favourite Lifford man?

James Mc Carthy is once again being linked with Everton this morning; it comes on the same day that the club refused a bid of over 40 million euro for Leighton Baines from Manchester United.
