There was astonishing controversy in Huddersfield's 0-0 Championship draw with Sheffield Wednesday yesterday.

Owls midfielder Jeremy Helan was shown two yellow cards, but referee Mick Russell failed to subsequently produce a red card.

It evoked memories of a similar incident involving English referee Graham Poll at the 2006 World Cup during the 2 - 2 between Croatia and Australia.

Croatian defender Josip Simunic was eventually sent off - but it took three yellow cards from Poll before he walked.

Unsurprisingly FIFA did not allow Poll to referee another match at the tournament.
