Jose Mourinho has confirmed that England striker Harry Kane will be back from injury before the end of the season.

Kane hasn't featured for Spurs since coming off injured in the 1-0 loss at Southampton on New Year's Day.

The hamstring injury sustained was so severe it required surgery, he ruptured a tendon from his hamstring. That sparked fears that the English talisman could miss out on the European Championships in the summer.

Jose Mourinho has allayed those fears and said Kane will return to help Spurs late-season push for a European place. The penultimate Premier League game against Leicester has initially been penciled in according to the Portuguese boss.

"I hope he will be able to. Is that the best-case scenario at the moment? Yes, I think so."

"Maybe Leicester. Maybe we will need that match for something. To be fourth, to be fifth, to be sixth."

Mourinho is hopeful by the time the Leicester game comes around Spurs will be in contention for Champions League places. "Maybe we need that match and maybe he can help us."

Recovery

Initial estimates about Kane's recovery suggested the striker would not return to training until April at the earliest, Mourinho said: "It's the first week of May."

The Tottenham boss was keen to stress that the situation with Harry Kane has all gone smoothly so far.

"There is not a setback. Nothing has happened, everything is ok."

"He's having his treatment. There is no pressure, he keeps going, no setback. It's just my feeling."

"It's better not to have any kind of expectations, any kind of pressure. Let it go and let's see."

England fans will hope there are no setbacks, while Jose does not want any expectations on Kane's recovery, the weight of a nation's expectations post-Brexit will be on the striker's shoulders come the summer.

Kane will be looking to add to his 32 goal haul for the Three Lions, as they bid for a first trophy since 1966.
