Hawkeye and the GAA appear to have reached the end of their honeymoon period and faced the first real test for the relationship. The system, used to assess if a score has been made, has been stood down for the senior hurling semi-final at Croke Park between Limerick and Clare, following a controversial call during the minor game between Limerick and Galway.
Early in the first half of the minor game Limerick’s Barry Nash hit what looked – and was – a perfectly good score, but Hawkeye overruled the white flag from the umpire and proclaimed it a miss.
Following the final whistle for normal time in the game the GAA announced Hawkeye would not be taking part in extra time in the minor match or taking any part in the big game of the day.
The GAA has said Hawkeye has been suspended "because of an inconsistency in the generation of a graphic in the first half of the minor game."
Galway went on to win 0-23 to 0-20 after extra time and a thrilling game of minor hurling.
