Former Munster and Ireland hooker Frankie Sheahan spoke with Newstalk’s Oisin Langan this morning to go over what proved to be a miserable weekend for Irish rugby.
Following the heroics of the previous weekend (with Ulster, Connacht and Munster all taking wins and Leinster pushing Clermont very close in France) it was a sobering derailment of plans for knockout Heineken Cup rugby.
Ulster lost 9-10 to Northampton, Leinster were beaten 21-28 by a dominant Clermont Auvergne at the Aviva stadium, Connacht went down 17-0 away to Biarritz and Munster suffered a demoralising 19-13 loss, away to Saracens.
Ulster woe was compounded by the sight of Tommy Bowe suffering a serious knee injury in the closing stages of their game.
It was the first time all four provinces lost on the same weekend in the Heineken Cup since 2007.
