Chilean striker Alexis Sanchez is set for a dramatic return to Manchester United from Inter Milan in the summer, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed.
The Red Devils boss was speaking ahead of Wednesday's Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg tie against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Solskjaer allowed Sanchez join Inter Milan on loan last summer. The player failed to settle in Manchester and only scored five times for the club in an 18-month spell. It appears though that United are willing to give the 31-year-old a second chance.
It's been a similar tale of woe for Alexis Sanchez in Italy. He's only played 214 minutes under Antonio Conte, nursing an ankle injury. Inter are currently paying half of the player's astronomical wages.
Solskjaer says it's very hard to bring players in at the moment as a way of temporarily replacing Marcus Rashford, who has a stress fracture to his back.
"It is the difficult window, it's always been. I can't remember how many good deals we have brought to the club in January. Henrik (Larsson) was good. Nemanja (Vidic) and Patrice (Evra), they were two good ones. Henrik was a loan. It's very hard, because clubs don't want to lose their best players. Alexis will come back in the summer and prove you all wrong."
Solskjaer says Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay are still not fit to return.
World Cup winner Pogba has only featured twice since September and Solskjaer says the Frenchman is frustrated:
"Paul's had a terrible season with injuries and he's desperate to play football. If there is one thing I know about Paul, he loves playing football and he loves just being out there training as well. It's been playing on his mind. Any player who is injured - you cannot wait to get back on the pitch. And you feel so free. He's been playing with pain, so I am sure when he is pain-free and he is injury-free, he'll enjoy his football, yeah. I see a boy that's fed up with being injured and desperate to play football. Paul's always been a top professional, so I don't have any doubts that when he comes back, he's going to enjoy himself."
