Stephen Hunt has told Newstalk he expects to sign for a new club in the coming week, and it will be a club either in the Championship or Premier League.

The former Wolves winger is commentating on Liverpool versus Manchester United for NEwstalk today but before kickoff Newstalk’s Joe Molloy asked Hunt about the current status of his search for a new footballing home.

“It’s on the way. It’ll be this week, hopefully I’ll have everything agreed and I
I might even sign for a club in the next few days while I’m over here, I’ve had enough holidays now,” Hunt said.

When Joe asked what level he expected be playing at next year Hunt admitted it would most likely be a Championship club, but he retained some hope for a move to the Premier League.

“More than likely be Championship but still that little bit of hope inside me that it could be Premiership,” he said.

Hunt would not however be drawn on who that club might be, saying he was reluctant to talk about any deal until it was finalised.

“I’ve been there before Joe, I learnt my lesson. It’ll happen when it happens and I’ll let you know then hopefully first of all.”

Hunt admitted the long time off without a club was tough, and although eh has been working on his fitness alone and with Wexford Youths he now feels the time is right to get back to “real work”.

“I’ve been watching 3 or 4 games into the season. I’m like a little bold kid that hasn’t gone back to school, I’m 3 or 4 weeks behind on my homework and I need to catch up,” he said.

"Fitness is good, I’ve been doing savage work in terms of training but it’s by myself so it’s a little bit lonely.
Wexford Youths have let me train with them so I’ve trained with them – a bit of Rosslare soccer at its finest. Enough’s enough now, time to get back to real work,” Hunt added.
