Alex Ferguson has backed Ryan Giggs to thrive as a manager after his departure from Manchester United.
The former winger and assistant manager left Old Trafford after 29 years on Saturday in a development that was expected for some time.
And his long-time former manager, Ferguson, believes Giggs has the inner "steel" to make it as a boss elsewhere.
"It is time Ryan stood on his own feet, got out there and accepted the challenge," he told BBC Sport.
"I talk about his poker face. He has a bit of steel about him. It is such a highly intense results industry, you need people who go into it to have a bit of steel about them, a bit of character and personality."
Ferguson also backed new Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho for bringing in his own assistant in the shape of Rui Faria rather than someone he has not worked with like Giggs.
