Eleven days ago, Munster fly-half Ian Keatley had a night to forget at Ravenhill after missing a string of kicks as the province went down 29 - 19 against Ulster.

But he bounced back to kick 4 from 5 in the crucial Heineken Cup win over Gloucester a week later.

And there was even better news for the former Connacht player as he earned a call-up to the extended Ireland squad for the Six Nations.

Dave McIntyre caught up with the 26-year-old today and Keatley admitted it was a strange few days.

"All your judged on is those 80 minutes that you go out and perform. There's a lot of other things that go on - even personal life, injuries and training-wise. There are other things that can affect you. Nobody cares about that but we still are human beings and other stuff can affect us," said Keatley who has struggled with a groin problem

"I had a rough couple of weeks with injury and I'm slowly but surely getting there. Against Ulster it was a rough first 40 minutes but I even bounced back in the second half of that game and then bounced back against Gloucester and put my hand back up there for the Irish squad and repay the favour that Joe [Schmidt] and the coaches have shown in me."

The 2013/14 campaign is Keatley's second full season in the Heineken Cup and with the competition from JJ Hanrahan for the No 10 shirt, Keatley believes he is learning fast.

"Heineken is a completely different experience to Rabo. It is that step up. I am getting more experience and starting to get a bit more comfortable in those bigger game situations. I'm learning every week and Gloucester was another learning experience as well as Ulster the week before," said Keatley who aims to be in the mix for the battle for the Ireland No 10 shirt.

"Hopefully I can get in there. I'm only 26 so it's not like I feel like my Ireland career is behind me. Once I'm still playing for Munster, I still feel that I have a great chance of playing for Ireland."
