Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus is the most notable omission from Germany's squad for Euro 2016.

The 27-year-old has not played since the German Cup Final in the middle of May and has struggled with injury in recent weeks. According to manager Joachim Low, he could not risk taking the midfielder if not fully fit.

"Reus can only run straight right now," Low revealed on Tuesday. "He could do no more in training. The medical staff was sceptical that he would be fully fit."

It is similar heartbreak to 2014 for Reus. He was named in the World Cup squad but had to withdraw after suffering an ankle injury against Armenia in the final warm-up game. The team celebrate with Reus' jersey after the final.

Despite suffering similar injury setbacks, captain Bastian Schweinsteiger has been named in the 23-man squad. The Manchester United player has not played since March after picking up the injury on international duty.

"(Mats) Hummels and Schweinsteiger will be available during the tournament," Low also confirmed as he named his squad. "Schweinsteiger will resume training today, Mats needs a few more days."

The World Champions begin their Euro 2016 campaign on June 12th in Lille against Ukraine.
