The greatest swimmer of all time is on the comeback trail and is looking to compete in his fifth Olympic Games next year. Michael Phelps shocked many observers at the weekend when he won three gold medals at the US National Championships in the 100 metre butterfly, the 200 butterfly and the 200 metre individual medley.

What shocked swimming analysts after the win was the fact that Phelps' winning times were quicker than those swam at the World Championships in Russia in those respective events last week. He missed the Championships after being suspended by USA Swimming from competing in Kazan after being arrested last Autumn for drink driving.

Wayne Drehs of ESPN spoke to Off the Ball last night to talk about the 30 year old and his comeback that seems to have grabbed the imagination of the wider American public. Drehs told Off the Ball's Joe Molloy that; "It makes Michael Phelps relatable". He added that Phelps overcoming his personal demons will be "inspriational to a lot of people".
