Jason McAteer's Merseyside derby record wasn't the best during his time at Liverpool.

The Holland slayer failed to taste victory against Everton in six attempts, losing twice.

No wonder he admits to not enjoying the 'Friendly Derby', although as he told us, it was not because of the losing record.

"I didn't enjoy them to be honest. Obviously growing up in the Wirral as a Liverpool fan and realizing what the bragging rights were about and what it meant, all of that got involved when playing in the games," said Trigger.

"The preparation for games was always three or four days but with derbies, you seemed to be preparing from the minute that last Premier League game happened. The build up is immense. You just want to get out and play but time stands still forever to get on the park."

McAteer also recalled the hostility at Goodison Park especially when playing in a position close to the home fans.

"Being at Goodison as a Liverpool player, it was a much more hostile environment. And playing on the wing is very difficult because you're going out to take a throw in - and it wasn't just at Goodison - but you'll get people who will spit at you and call you all kinds of names, make it difficult to get the ball back. But you've got to stay professional."
