Jeff Hendrick is hoping to breathe new life into his career with a loan move to Queens Park Rangers.

The Republic of Ireland midfielder spent his 30th birthday tying up the switch from Newcastle United.

Hendrick leaves a Newcastle side battling relegation, for a QPR team who sit fourth in the Championship and have a real chance of promotion under Mark Warburton.

His move completed a busy deadline day for Ireland players, with Jamie McGrath signing a two-and-a-half year deal at Wigan having left St. Mirren.

Hendrick has been unable to convert the upturn in his international form to minutes on the field for Newcastle. He's played a grand total of 70 Premier League minutes this season.

“It’s been a bit of a crazy birthday, just waiting for this to happen, but I am really excited,” said Hendrick.

“I have been following the team throughout this season and you are in a good position in the league. Hopefully I can come in and help give that last push to get promoted.”

He added, "Anyone who knows me will know I will be disappointed with the game time I have got this season so I wanted to get out, get games and enjoy my football.

“I wasn’t just going to sit around. A big thing for me is to push myself and enjoy my football.”

His new manager is sure Hendrick won't unsettle the harmony he's overseen at Loftus Road in recent months.

“The players have worked so hard to build a brilliant dressing room culture," said Warburton, "one that has such togetherness and harmony, so anyone we add must be the right character – and Jeff certainly fits the bill in that respect.

“I am very much looking forward to working with him over the coming weeks and months.”
