Waterford manager Liam Cahill has reportedly enlisted Jim McGuinness to help with their return to training.
There were multiple claims on Tuesday that the All Ireland-winning manager with Donegal has been serving as a performance coach with the All Ireland semi-finalists.
The 49-year old has been working with the Derry City U19s this year, helping them to Enda McGuill Cup success in October.
Despite his clear move into soccer, McGuinness remains in demand in the world of Gaelic Games.
Most recently, the 2012 Sam Maguire-winning manager was linked with a role on the coaching staff with the prospective Down management ticket of Conor Laverty. McGuinness subsequently denied those rumours, saying he was "very much focused on soccer at the moment".
The door was left ajar for an approach, with McGuinness saying he'd been approached by a number of county teams, and listened to each one.
McGuinness attended a Galway training session in 2020, but said he only did so as a favour to Pádraic Joyce.
Waterford haven't won an All Ireland hurling title since 1959, but there are hints they're getting closer to the summit once again.
Under Cahill, they reached the All Ireland final in 2020 - where they were beaten by Limerick - before succumbing to the same opposition in this year's semi-finals.
The Déise received a boost in August, with Cahill committing to the county despite interest from his native Tipperary in the wake of Liam Sheedy's retirement.
