UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said that he will look at everything he can do to stop the proposed European Super League from going ahead in its current form.

A breakaway cabal of 12 sides - six from England, and three each from Spain and Italy - have signaled their intention to form a rebel competition from UEFA, but have left the door open to three more teams, believed to be the French and German big-hitters.

However Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund's as well as PSG have all expressed their desire to reject any offers made to them to join the league.

While many fans and pundits have expressed their anger and frustration with the proposed league, the UK Prime Minister has also come out against the league in it's currently proposed format.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Johnson said that the UK government will be looking at all options to prevent the Super League from going ahead.

"We are going to look at everything that we can do with the football authorities to make sure that this doesn't go ahead in the way that it is currently being proposed," Johnson said.

"I don't think that it is good news for fans, I don't think it is good news for football in this country."

Johnson said that the link to the fans should be the most important thing for the football clubs.

"These clubs are not just great global brands," Johnson said. "Of course they are great global brands, but they are also clubs that have originated historically from their towns, cities and local communities.

"They should have a link with those fans and with the fanbase in those communities. It is very, very important that that continues to be the case.

"I don't like the look of these proposals and we are going to look at what we can do."
