Keith Wood says the sheer physicality of South African teams means playing the Sprinboks is “unbelievably fatiguing” for their opponents, but Ireland can take hope by turning their perceived squad weakness into a strength and catch the South Africans off guard.
The former Munster and Ireland hooker says South Africa “don’t seem to have any real idea about the players they’re playing against” as Ireland will line out with a side of new faces, bereft of the big names such as O’Connell, O’Driscoll and Kearney.
Wood believes the addition of Simon Zebo and Ricardt Strauss to the line up are both positive moves, with Zebo offering something “we haven’t had for awhile”- the ability to run with the ball.
