Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is in line to make his first-team debut for Liverpool against MK Dons in the English League Cup tomorrow night.

Assistant manager Pep Lijnders says the 20-year-old would have already had played had he not suffered an injury in pre-season.

“Yeah, absolutely. He was a little bit unlucky in pre-season otherwise he would have played already more games," he told Liverpool's official website.

“He’s a talented goalie and with all talented boys it’s about in the right moments giving the right opportunities in the contact stuff, when they are with the senior players around, when there is something at stake. That can really give them the next step and the confidence to grow.”

Lijnders has also hinted that 19-year-old striker Rhian Brewster will get game time tomorrow.

"Rhian is in contention. He's waiting already for the time!

"We look forward to seeing him and play like he likes to play. If he is just himself then everything will be fine."

Lijnders added: "We prepare this game in the same way. We prepared in the same way as we played Chelsea away.

"Of course, we want to use our squad. From the outside we say squad, from the inside we say team, so it's a chance for a few players who didn't play in the last weeks 90 minutes who can start the game. They feel this responsibility anyway.

"We don't change the way we prepare, we don't change the way we set up, we want to put our identity in the game, our passion in the game.

"We will play with the same hunger to win the game as we did in the last games."
