Liverpool's Champions League game away to FC Midtjylland next month will go ahead in Denmark after the UK government relaxed travel restrictions for elite athletes.

It had looked like the game would be played in Germany after Borussia Dortmund revealed on Thursday that Jurgen Klopp would return to Signal Iduna Park with his Liverpool side.

UK Government's quarantine rules state that anyone returning from Denmark needs to observe a 14-day quarantine but an exemption has been made for the Premier League champions.

It means Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will return to Westfalenstadion, where he led Borussia Dortmund to two Bundesliga titles between 2008 and 2015 before his move to Merseyside.

Liverpool have another chance to secure a place in the last 16 when they host Ajax at Anfield next Tuesday.

The Reds lost 2-0 at home to Atalanta on Wednesday night, which means they still have to win one of their final two group games to guarantee a place in the knockout stages.

Klopp made five changes from the win over Leicester for the Atalanta game due to the busy schedule and early kick-off against Brighton on Saturday.
