Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has written to some club supporters to apologise for defying restrictions put in place during the coronavirus pandemic.

The letter was written after the England international and the club received messages from supporters expressing their displeasure with his actions in recent weeks.

It is understood Walker said sorry in reply and promised that there would be no further breaches of the guidelines.

A disciplinary investigation was opened by the club last month after a newspaper reported that Walker had hosted a party which involved two sex-workers, after the lockdown began.

Last week The Sun reported that Walker travelled to Sheffield last Wednesday to visit his sister and his parents.

It is understood that the club decided against disciplinary action for the most recent incident due to the player's 'personal circumstances'.

In response to the reporting of his trips to visit family members, Walker released a statement on social media claiming that he is being harassed.

"It is sad, but I feel as though my life is being scrutinised without any context," Walker wrote in his statement on Twitter.

"I understand if people are upset or angry with me, but it was important for people to have a better understanding of my life.

“I have recently gone through one of the toughest periods of my life, which I take full responsibility for.

"However, I now feel as though I am being harassed. This is no longer solely affecting me but affecting the health of my family and my young children too.

"At a time when the focus is understandably on Covid-19, at what point does mental health get taken into consideration?

"I am a human being, with feelings of pain and upset like everybody else. Being in the public eye does not make you immune to this."
