The three time All-Ireland winning defender spoke to Ger, Wooly and Diarmuid on Off The Ball about Tyrone's semi final defeat to the Connaught champions on Sunday.

Looking back on the defeat, Gormley focused on the loss of key players, such as Stephen O'Neill and Martin Penrose, before and during the game as a strong factor in Tyrone's defeat.

"Your talking about four or five mighty players, and especially when Mayo had the upper hand and it was disappointing to look around and them men were on the bench. They really could have helped the situation and maybe stemmed the tide a bit."

When asked if he thought Tyrone could have shocked Mayo, Gormley was adamant the Red Hand county always believed they could win.

"Well we wouldn't have thought it a shock. We thought we were well capable of winning the game. We were in a good place at that time, around 25/30 minutes. To concede those three points before half time was a bit of a blow. We were well in the game, even going in at half time we thought there was a big half coming but the penalty was a big plus for them and a huge blow for us. It was probably the major turning point."

With the county going through a period of transition and a large number of successful younger players making the step up to the senior ranks, the three time all-star believes there is an All-Ireland in Tyrone.

"I think these younger fellas have a breed of confidance about them. They have done it in underage level and it is up to them to really step forward and push it on and win a senior title. I always believe there is an All-Ireland title every year that I'm involved with Tyrone. The potential to get one is always there buit things don't always work out. I think they have the potential to try and get things back to what they were in the noughties."
