A tally of 1-3 in injury time gave Derry a late victory over Westmeath in the Allianz Football League Division 2 final at Croke Park.
After a lethargic start, Westmeath had matched Brian McIver's side stride for stride in an exciting contest at a sunny GAA HQ but Emmet McGuckin's goal and a flurry of late scores helped Derry to a 1-18 to 0-15 victory.
The game had been heading for a replay before McGuckin challenged the Lakesiders' keeper Gary Connaughton for a high ball and rifled a shot into the roof of the net.
It is Derry's first league title since their 2008 triumph in Division 1.
