23.50 Well that's all for today from me. You'll probably hear more about that Herrera story on Off The Ball tomorrow evening from 7pm. Good night from Raf Diallo (@raftastico).

23.46 BBC Radio Manchester confirm three men acted as imposters in the Man United/Herrera negotiations:

23.35 Everton confirm McCarthy, Barry and Lukaku have joined, while Fellaini and Anichebe (West Brom) have gone.

23.24 While Man United are also said to have brought Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao on loan, the Herrara story gets crazier. Daniel Taylor of The Guardian says the club has confirmed that they were falsley represented by fake agents, "imposters" in fact:

23.21 It wouldn't be a transfer deadline day without Sky Sports talking to Harry Redknapp through his car window. He has confirmed three signings: Tom Carroll, Benoit Assou Ekotto and Nico Kranjar.

23.16 Long staying at the Hawthorns makes sense as Romelu Lukaku confirms Everton move:

23.15 Shane Long will stay at West Brom. The move to Hull is off.

23.10 Breaking News: Marounae Fellaini has reportedly joined Manchester United for about £27.5 million.

23.03 It looks like James McCarthy and Gareth Barry will both sign for Everton. It is now a question of the paperwork being filed on time. Dave Whelan says Wigan accepted a £13 million fee.

23.00 The window has closed but more deals will trickle through

22.51 Bloody hell! Have Everton struck late on to land James McCarthy from Wigan. The Toffees have reportedly satisfied Wigan chairman Dave Whelan's valuation of the player according to Sky Sports. Everton also hold out hope of getting Lukaku.

22.45 Remember the last-16 of World Cup 2010. Well commentator Adam Summerton does:

22.37 Gareth Barry has arrived at Everton's training ground to sign a deal.

22.36 Sunderland sign another Italian today:

22.30 Drama at West Brom. Lukaku seemed to be heading to the Baggies, but it now seems that he is closing in on an Everton move. Meanwhile Stephan Sessegnon has become West Brom's record signing, moving from Sunderland for about £6 million.

22.26 Mesut Ozil is now an Arsenal player. He has signed a five year deal.

22.16 Fabio Borini joins Sunderland from Liverpool.

22.11 Balague does hint that Fellaini to United may happen. But this is unclear as Everton have failed to land James McCarthy or an other viable alternative.

22.07 Bad news for United fans if this is true. Spanish football expert Guillem Balague claims the Herrera deal is off. Issues over paperwork and tax are said to be the cause.

22.05 James McCarthy to Everton is off as Wigan are not happy with the money on offer. That could effect potential a deal involving Marouane Fellaini and Man United.

22.03 Fulham right back Sascha Riether welcomes his compatriot Ozil to London. Seems like the deal is done but Arsenal are waiting to confirm for dramatic effect.

22.00 One hour to go!!!

21.58 Off The Ball comes to an end for the night but Cian will be on in a bit for a full run through. I'll be staying on until the deadline.

21.53 It looks like Lukaku has turned down Everton in favour of West Brom where he found success last season. Everton fan Colm 'Wooly' Parkinson of Off The Ball is incensed but his reaction on Twitter cannot be printed here.

21.35 Atletico Madrid are a rising force in Spain and aided by the big money sale of Falcao, they continue to strengthen. Ajax defender Toby Aldeweireld and French midfielder Joshua Guilavogui from Saint Etienne have been signed, sealed and delivered.

21.31 Man United midfielder Nick Powell is off to Wigan on loan. Does the ex-Crewe youngster's departure mean a new midfielder is coming in.

21.25 Could Stephen Ireland return to Ireland at some point? Not according to Dan McDonnell who says that rumours will start again when the next WAG musical comes round.

21.13 Off The Ball: Dan McDonnell says Kevin Doyle's wages are putting potential suitors off

21.03 Just under two hours to go...

20.58 We mentioned this rumour earlier today and it looks like Benoit Assou Ekotto will link up with Harry Redknapp again. He says he will follow Spurs' results even though the Cameroon man claims he never watches football...

20.51 MARCA and radio station COPE report that Man United had a €40 million bid for Sami Khedira rejected.

20.48 Dan McDonnell will be talking about urine on The Football Show on Off The Ball from 9pm. Yes, urine.

20.46 Hull have agreed a £5 million fee for Shane Long. A club record no less.

20.45 The Lukaku to Everton loan move rumours are not going away. And there is some suprise at Jose Mourinho's treatment of a talented youngster...

The same gist from French footballer writer Philippe Auclair...

20.36 Demba Ba to Arsenal is off. Nicklas Bendtner might be staying at Arsenal, a prospect that is sure to delight his legion of Arsenal fans...

20.25 Think Ozil to Arsenal is more or less official. His friend and Germany team-mate Jerome Boateng posted this on his official Facebook page, accompanied by a good luck message. Hat tip to Newstalk newsreader and reporter Richard Chambers.

20.10 Breaking News: Fellaini left Everton's training ground in the last hour and it is alleged that he has handed in a transfer request in order to force a move to Man United.

20.06 We are still waiting on Arsenal to officially confirm the Ozil deal. But here's the new keeper Emiliano Viviano in his Arsenal kit...

20.05 Cian Murtagh has just revealed that Everton have joined the race for Shane Long. West Brom are also looking at Stephan Sessegnon (Sunderland) and Victor Anichebe (Everton).

20.00 While we wait on news of Ander Herrera, here's one of his most famous goals against Barcelona no less:

19.58 Lots of conflicting reports on Herrera to Man United. Here's one from Tancredi Palmer of CNN Sport:

19.47 News filtering in that Romelu Lukaku could make a shock loan move to Everton just before the deadline. They do need someone who can put the ball in the back of the net. But if Ba goes as well, that would only leave Eto'o and Torres as options up front for Chelsea.

19.45 Off The Ball: Nevin tells Joe that Daniel Sturridge must not be pushed out to the wing when Luis Suarez comes back.

19.35 Pat Nevin is on Off The Ball right now to talk about a good day for Liverpool and a not so good day for David Moyes.

19.30 West Ham reportedly hope to hijack Arsenal's attempt to sign Demba Ba on loan. He previously represented them from January to summer 2011.

19.18 Ireland have allowed Shane Long to leave the camp in order to take part in talks with Hull. Meanwhile his "team-mate" at West Brom, Peter Odemwingie will finally get his wish to leave the Baggies - this time with permission. He joins Cardiff.

19.15 Fernando to Everton is off as he uses Porto fans on Instagram that they can "count on him".

19.10 Off The Ball has kicked off in the last few minutes and the lads will be talking about all today's transfer action.

18.30 A star on social media, but significantly not on the pitch for Arsenal, Emmanuel Frimpong posted this on his Instagram account. Hat tip to Newstalk news man Richard Chambers for digging this one out:

18.22 Aston Villa have also completed a purchase today...

18.19 So there's less than 5 hours to go. Where do you feel your favourite club should strengthen? And where should the likes of James McCarthy and Kevin Doyle move? Tweet your thoughts to @Newstalkfm and @raftastico.

18.12 With all the comings at Liverpool, there had to be at least one going. Spanish youngster Daniel Pacheco has joined Spanish Segunda Division team Alcorcon.

18.10 And Stoke have confirmed that Ireland (the former Ireland international, not the country) is the last piece of their puzzle. They have tweeted that they expect to do no more transfer business before the deadline.

17.58 Stephen Ireland to Stoke City is a done deal, not that it matters at all from an Ireland perspective

17.43 Kevin Doyle has been a bit of a forgotten man today but the Wolves striker is being linked with a move to Hull and Leicester City.

17.40 But could the Belgian FA come to the rescue for David Moyes? Fellaini is meant to link up with the other Red Devils (the Belgian national team) for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers and their FA have given him extra time to try and complete a deal.

17.30 Regular Off The Ball contributor Tony Barrett of The Times has bad news for Man United fans, although the situation could change significantly. He seems to liken it to a pipe blockage or trapped wind. Somebody call a plumber...

17.25 Palermo have confirmed that Emiliano Viviano will join Arsenal on a one-year loan deal. Arsenal also have an option to buy the Italian goalkeeper.

17.15 The Ozil to Arsenal deal should be confirmed shortly and expect more news from The Emirates regarding other signings.

17.03 Meanwhile #MoyesOut is still trending on Twitter. But will the potential signing of Ander Herrera appease mutinous United fans? Let us know by tweeting @raftastico and @newstalkfm and we'll publish the best tweets here.

17.00 French TV is claiming that Juan Mata is holding talks with PSG. The Chelsea attacking midfielder has not been a favourite of Jose Mourinho so far this season, although the Happy One or Special One (or whatever he calls himself now) said that the Blues would not sell to another Premier League club.

16.28 Everton are thought to be close to signing Porto's Brazilian midfielder Fernando, which could be as a replacement for Fellaini, which would also pour cold water on their interest in Ireland's James McCarthy.

16.25 Chelsea younsters Josh McEachran and Nathan Chalobah will be shipped out on loan to Premier League clubs.

16.20 Italian goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano is also believed to have passed his medical. He might play for Serie B side Palermo but he has been capped by Italy and has previously kept goal for Inter Milan, Bologna and Brescia.

16.10 Dermot Corrigan has tweeted something interesting regarding Herrera to Man United:

16.05 To recap, there are just under 7 hours of the transfer window to go. Arsenal are close to confirming the signing of Mesut Ozil after he completed his medical. While they complete the relevant paperwork, Arsenal's transfer business may not be over. Meanwhile Man United are said to be on the verge of completing a deal for Ander Herrera. Full story here.

15.13 Update on Stephen Ireland. He has arrived at Stoke to finalize a loan move from Aston Villa.

14.30 Spanish football expert claims Man United have almost wrapped up a deal for Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera

14.22 Sky sources reporting that Stephen Ireland could end up at Stoke on loan. He played - and thrived - when Mark Hughes was manager at Manchester City.

14.10 Kaka has arrived back at Milan...

14.00 Mesut Ozil is undergoing a medical before his move to Arsenal from Real Madrid is complete. Think it's a good move or are the Gunners over-stocked in attacking midfield. Let me know on the Twitter machine (@raftastico)

13.35 #MoyesOut is trending on Twitter. Man United fans displaying admirable patience after about 3 months of AlexFerguson AD.

13.00 Suggestions that Marouane Fellaini to Man United talks are progressing well and a deal could be concluded in time for the deadline. Good news for James McCarthy if it happens.

12.55 Harry Redknapp has been quiet so far, as Breakfast's Kieran Cuddihy reminds us:

12.30 More on Ozil to Arsenal. A fee of €50 million has been agreed and he is set to fly in to complete a medical

12.05 There might be good news for Arsenal fans. Reports suggest Arsenal have agreed a €50 million deal for Mesut Ozil. They are also said to be in for Demba Ba.

11.45 Both Manchester United and Manchester City rejected the chance to sign Ozil in recent weeks according to reports.

11.35 Liverpool have made three deadline day signings already but the club are also expected to hang onto Luis Suarez despite reports in Spain suggesting that Real Madrid will make one last swoop for him.

11.30 Roma's Daniele De Rossi was the reported subject of a bid from Man United last week. But the one club man will not be leaving according to the Giallorossi's new General Manager. De Rossi scored a screamer last weekend...

11.05 A third signing of the day for Liverpool. More details here

11.00 This Arsenal fan knows what he wants, although he also tends to  be in the Wenger Out! camp:

So which parts of the team need urgent attention? Arsenal fans, let us know by tweeting @raftastico and @langanator.

10.50 In an interview that was broadcast on Off The Ball during the summer, Tottenham left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto told sportswriter Eoin Butler that Harry Redknapp was his favourite manager because he "did not care if I was smiling or not". Well, he is being linked with a move to 'Arry's QPR as he finds himself behind Danny Rose at White Hart Lane.

10.40 Gareth Barry is finalizing a loan move to Everton from Manchester City who completed a move for defender Martin Demichelis from Atletico Madrid for €4 million. The Argentinian only signed for Atletico in July.

10.30  Manchester United are making a swoop for Ozil according to Sky Sports News. The German midfielder looked Arsenal bound but Spanish newspaper Marca have suggested that he doesn't want to move to the Gunners.

10.20 Stoke signed Werder Bremen winger Marko Arnautovic for £2 million earlier. He is likely to face Ireland when we play Austria. He is also a little bit crazy at times. Jose Mourinho once said that the former Inter Milan player "is a fantastic person but has the attitude of a child". Unsurprisingly he was also a close friend of Mario Balotelli.

He also called Bremen a "dump" and stormed off the pitch in front of TV cameras while on loan in Northern Germany three years ago.

9.50 Reports coming through that Arsenal have got one deal "over the line". More details on that soon...

9.35 From an Irish perspective, James McCarthy's future is of immediate interest. It's hard to believe he'll be a Championship player by the close of play today. Everton have been heavily linked with him but the Wigan man's move hinges on Maroune Fellaini's possible departure. Would Everton be a good move for him? Tweet your thoughts to @raftastico or @langanator

9.20 There's good news for Liverpool fans as they confirm two signings to add depth to their defence: France defender Mamadou Sakho has arrived from PSG, while young Portuguese star Tiago Ilori moves from Sporting Lisbon. Ilori was on Raf Diallo's Newstalk Scouting Report a few months back. Read more about him here: http://newstalk.ie/Scouting-Report--Liverpool-target-Tiago-Ilori-

9.05 Kaka is back at AC Milan. Full story here: http://ow.ly/ote5I

8.48 First rumour of the day comes from Spain. Sports paper and unofficial Real Madrid mouthpiece MARCA says Mesut Ozil has sensationally (perhaps you can also substitute sensationally with blatantly untrue) turned down Arsenal. Breakfast's Kieran Cuddihy looked at that rumour earlier on the show and he said that if it were true, it might be a play for more money on Ozil's part.

8.40am So it's that time of year again, Transfer Deadline Day or Christmas as Jim White calls it. Fortunately the Gareth Bale saga is well and truly over at long long last. But that doesn't mean there aren't any big moves to complete. Manchester United and Arsenal are expected to be among the big movers and shakers today.

So you can tweet me (@raftastico) or Oisin Langan (@langanator) to let us know who your club should buy or indeed not sell and we'll post the top tweets here...
