RTÉ has confirmed that a sixth season of popular crime drama Love/Hate is in development - but it will not hit screens in 2015.

The broadcaster's Head of Drama, Jane Gogan, said "RTÉ can confirm that Love/Hate will not return to screens in 2015. A sixth series is currently in development with the writer and creator Stuart Carolan and Octagon Films."

The spokesperson added, "the producers and Stuart feel it's important to take time and reflect before going to production with a sixth season."

More than a million people are said to have tuned in to last week's fifth season finale of the show.
