Tottenham Hotspur had a strong start to the season, but after securing just one win in the last four games, things have begun to slow down somewhat.
Asked about his team's position in the table as they chase a Champions League spot, Mauricio Pochettino used a very strange turn of phrase to describe the situation that they find themselves in at White Hart Lane as their London neighbours Arsenal chase the title.
"It's like what Britney Spears and will.i.am sing: 'Everybody in the club, all eyes on us, all eyes on us'. Because it’s not important what Arsenal do. For me it's important to assess our seasons and how we can compare with us, not how we compare with another team. If we finish in the top four it will be because we have improved on last season. I was confident [before the start of the season] and I am still confident with the squad that we have".
In case you're not familiar with the oeuvre of either artist, the song which Pochettino refers to is of course the classic 'Scream & Shout', suggesting that Mauricio is a connoisseur of club bangers.
Neither Spears nor will.i.am have remarked on the comments on their respective Twitter pages yet, but they certainly have one fan who'll be headed to their next concert in London anyway.
